Sell Your Clothes for Cash in Lafayette — What We Actually Pay
Most places that buy clothes in Lafayette won’t tell you what they pay until you’re standing at the counter with a bag. You wait, they sort, and then you get a number with no explanation attached.
We’d rather just publish it.
What we pay
Our offer is based on our selling price — what the piece will realistically move for in our shop — not what you originally paid for it.
- Cash: 25% of our selling price
- Store credit: 50% of our selling price
So if we’re going to sell it for $100, that’s $25 cash or $50 in credit. Credit is double, which is why most people take it — but cash is always on the table and we’re not going to talk you out of it.
Why credit is worth double
Fair question, and the answer is just arithmetic. Between you handing us a piece and someone else buying it, we’re covering cleaning and processing, authentication, storage and display space, staff time, and rent. Some items sell in a week. Some sit for three months. Some never move at all, and we eat that.
Store credit costs us inventory rather than cash, so we can afford to give you more of it. That’s the whole mechanism. No trick.
What we take
- Clothing — tops, bottoms, outerwear, sets
- Shoes and sneakers
- Bags and purses
- Accessories — hats, belts, jewelry
Everything needs to be clean, authentic, and in good condition. No strong odors, no stains, no damage.
What we pass on
- Heavy wear, holes, rips, or stains
- Counterfeits
- Missing parts or pieces
- Strong odors — smoke, mildew, anything that won’t wash out
If we pass on something, it’s not a judgment on your taste. It usually means we already have four of them, or it’s out of season, or it needs more work to make sellable than it’ll return.
How we’re different from the franchise resale stores
Lafayette has Plato’s Closet, Clothes Mentor, and Once Upon A Child, and they’re all legitimate businesses that serve real needs. Plato’s is genuinely good for teen basics in volume. Once Upon A Child is the right call for kids’ gear.
The difference is the buy list. Franchise resale runs on corporate guidance about which brands and styles to accept this season. That system is efficient, and it’s why a lot of good streetwear gets declined at those counters — not because the piece is bad, but because it isn’t on the list.
We don’t run a corporate list. We buy what we think our customers in Acadiana will actually wear, which means we’ll look at independent brands, local labels, and streetwear that doesn’t have a national name attached. Sometimes that works in your favor. Sometimes we pass on something a franchise would have taken. It cuts both ways and we’d rather be straight about it.
How to get more for your stuff
Wash everything first. Single biggest lever you control. A clean piece and a dirty piece of identical quality get very different offers, because one is ready for the floor and one is a project.
Bring the extras. Original box, dust bag, tags, receipt — all of it raises what we can sell the piece for, which raises what we can pay you.
Think about season. Bring outerwear in the fall, not in April. We’re buying for what’s about to sell.
Take the credit if you shop here anyway. If you’re going to spend $50 with us in the next few months regardless, taking credit instead of cash is a straight doubling of your money. If you need the cash, take the cash — that’s what it’s there for.
How it works
- Bring your items in. Walk-ins are welcome. Appointments and a waitlist are available if you’d rather not wait.
- We look through everything and check authenticity and condition.
- We make you an offer — cash or credit, your call.
- You get paid the same day. Bring a valid photo ID; it’s required.
No appointment needed, no shipping anything off, no waiting two weeks for a consignment payout.
